St Mary's Church

New Year -  New Challenge

Caynham’s Vicar, the Revd. Richard Green, will be leaving us early in the New Year for pastures new. After eight years as Team Vicar of the Ashfords’  Group, which includes Caynham. Richard is taking up the position of Vicar of St Fagan’s in Aberdare (Diocese of Llandaff, Church in Wales). Our loss is Aberdare’s gain. He has done a tremendous amount to support and encourage us over the last eight years and we shall  miss his Christian example  and  enthusiasm very much. St Fagan’s parish is not as rural as this part of Shropshire and will offer Richard very different challenges. Richard will be in sole charge. The parish has three churches and average weekly congregations of about 150.

At Richard’s final service, the Christmas Eve Carol service, Jill Bufton, Secretary of the Parochial Church Council, thanked Richard and made a presentation, after which everyone was invited to have a mince pie and a glass of wine or soft drink when they would have an opportunity to say goodbye to Richard, whose parents were present.

Caynham's second Diamond Jubilee Celebration

- Nov 2012

Caynham saw a second Diamond Jubilee in 2012, that of Caynham's Organist and Parochial Church Council member: Marina Clent.

November 2012 saw Marina celebrating an almost unbelievable 60 years service on the Parochial Church Councils of the historic medieval parish of Cainham.

Until the 1830’s Cainham (as it used to be written) covered what are now the parishes of Caynham, Knowbury and Clee Hill. Persuaded by her father at the earliest possible age to get involved, Marina has served on all three Councils and set an outstanding example of public service. It was a very enjoyable occasion when, at the last meeting of Caynham PCC, we were able to celebrate the event and Marina was toasted by her friends in a suitably sparkling manner and presented with a Diamond Anniversary card and a gift for her garden to commemorate the occasion.

We are very grateful for all that she has done - and continues to do- to support Caynham.
